Details

Walter Mayson was a prolific English maker who, after the trials of the auto didact, attained considerable skills in the art of violin making, drawing on the master works of Cremona for inspiration whilst always allowing his own idiosyncratic style to surface. He usually named each instrument; this one is called 'Abydos' after that ancient and archeologically important city in Egypt.

The violin has an open sound with great articulation and playability. It responds quickly to changes in dynamics so it’s a great fiddle to explore colours and contrasting tones. It is evenly balanced, has excellent sound stability and good overtones response.
