Details

One of Australia’s finest violin makers, Rainer is a multi-award winner whose work is becoming increasingly recognised and revered both in Australia and abroad.

Rainer is a founding member of the AVMA (Australian Violin Makers Association) and a member of the EILA (Entente Internationale des Maitres Luthiers et Archetiers d’Art).

The soft quilted flame of slab cut maple in the back and bold, textured reed lines of the fine spruce top plate are shown off to great effect with a transparent, golden brown varnish which sits on top of a reflective golden ground.

This viola has a very focussed sound with a smooth and well balanced tone when crossing strings. Having a sweet, well centred character it offers a quick response to the bow, making it nimble and agile for those faster passages. The elegant and sonorous tone is sweet in the higher positions, making the sound very pleasant under the ear. Double stops fit comfortably under the hand and overall the playability is excellent.

An altogether wonderful viola for the advanced and advancing player.
