Details

A graduate of the famous Newark Violin Making School in the U.K., Martin has worked in the Netherlands and Germany before setting up his workshop in Melbourne, where he now dedicates his time to making new instruments in both modern and baroque styles. Martin is a founding member of the Australian Violin Maker’s Association (AVMA).

This violin, based on a personal model, has a tightly flamed one piece back plate with similar wood on the sides and head; the top plate of fine straight grained spruce all covered in a warm orange-brown varnish applied in a complex faux-antique pattern.

It has a warm, deep resonance with a quick response and rich overtones, the sound is colourful in the middle ranges and sweet in the higher registers. It has a very smooth tone through its entire range and even balance across the strings.

It is very sensitive and responsive to the bow and can produce lots of power if pushed.

Perfectly set up, this is a violin that will keep giving and will reward the player on their journey.
