Details

Richard Weichold studied bow making but, as an entrepreneur, ran a very successful bow making enterprise in Dresden, Germany. He ran a large workshop employing many fine bow makers but also bought in bows from other workshops, including Nürnberger and Pfretzschner. This bow is possibly from the Pfretzschner workshop.

It has had a crack in the heel (where the adjuster screw goes in); this has been repaired and reinforced and is as strong as when new, nevertheless, the bow is priced accordingly.

This bow is stable on the strings and produces a very powerful sound but can be gentle and sweet if needed.

The sound is resonant and clear with accurate articulation, smooth détaché, rich for legato and cantabile passages. It is a very well balanced and comfortable bow.
