Details

Malcolm is a very natural and intuitive violin maker who has made a large number of instruments. As an amateur musician he was drawn to violin making and over the years has produced an admirably large body of fine work.

This viola is a good and typical example of Malcolm’s work. The two piece back of medium flamed maple with matching ribs and head, the spruce top of medium spaced reed lines.

Small violas can face a challenge in the power department … not so this little beauty! It is very powerful for such a small instrument, having a great ‘C’ string and good resonance throughout. It offers an excellent response at high positions and a well balanced sound across the strings with a colourful, singing voice which carries clearly. Playability with comfort!
