Details

This unlabelled Zivic violin was purchased from the maker by the current owner 58 years ago. It is a fine and typical example of this maker’s work, exhibiting a one piece back of bold, narrow flamed maple and two piece soundboard of close, evenly spaced reed lines, all covered in a warm orange-brown varnish which is applied over a golden ground.

It has been professionally played all its life and this contributes to its open, free character.

It has a powerful, colourful sound with considerable depth and is very responsive and well balanced across the strings, maintaining its charming voice throughout the entire range. It produces rich overtones and has an extremely versatile sound that makes it exciting and fun to play. It is, in short, a culturally important treasure!
