The workshops at Grant Violins are a hive of industry with a constant
flow of repair and restoration projects on the go at any one time. Alex is
personally involved with all the repairs, restorations and fitting up procedures
on instruments and bows
that flow through the shop. He is a fully qualified violin
maker with many years of restoration experience, both in Australia and internationally.
The
experience of working on many fine instruments of the early
Cremonese masters and also from the classical and modern eras has
instilled an acute sense of conservation in his approach to repair
and restoration projects. This approach is appreciated by many of
our finest musicians who entrust their precious instruments to
Alex's care.
The
workshop is dedicated to painstaking repairs and restorations to
some of our fine antique violins, violas and cellos as well as
fitting up new instruments and preparation of shop instruments and
bows.
We
are pleased to offer these restoration services to the playing
public whenever possible but, occasionally, due to pressure of work,
it is necessary to defer bookings to ensure that deadlines for
existing work can be met.
However, we will always try to find time to assist our regular customers
with the occasional emergency repairs that crop up from time to time.
Should you be considering having any work done to your instrument, it is advisable
to speak with us well in advance so that we can plan a convenient repair programme.

We are happy to inspect your own instruments and bows with a view to
supplying an insurance valuation. This valuation is an inexpensive service
which we offer customers expressly to meet the requirements of insurance companies.
It is not intended to be used as an aid to selling or buying any item and we
cannot take responsibility for its misuse.
If you require an insurance valuation on your instrument(s) and bow(s),
to keep costs to a minimum it is advisable to supply us with any supporting
documentation you may have for the item.
