Dresden, c.1900
Richard Weichold was born into an instrument making family and was apprenticed to violin maker C. G. Pfretzschner.
He was clearly skilled in business as well as violin making. On his fathers death in 1862, he took over the shop and developed this business into a hub for fine German bow making.
Richard Weichold clearly had a good eye for bows as he bought in bows, in various ranges, from some of the finest bow making establishments in the country. It's not clear if he actually made bows himself but his contribution to the distribution of fine German bows is outstanding.
This bow is attributed to the Nürnberger workshop, c. 1900 and has a round pernambuco stick with silver mounted ebony frog, weighing 57 gm.
