Rainer, originally from the Victorian goldfields region, learned his craft in Melbourne before moving to Germany where he worked for eight years and gained the title of "Geigenbaumeister" (Master Violin Maker). On returning to Australia, he set up his workshop in Guildford, Victoria and has built up a formidable reputation as a maker of fine quality instruments.

This cello dated 2010 is constructed from Spruce and Willow.
